Workers Needed
Due to labor shortages post-Covid and Australia’s stringent border security policies, the country is facing a stark labor shortage.
Australia needs to permit at least 195,000 people this financial year, an increase from previous year’s 35,000.
There are upwards of 480,000 vacancies to fill in various fields but a 50-year unemployment peak has presented a unique challenge to employers across the country.
Workers from Pakistan, India, China, UK, USA and other countries are needed to fill the gaps in the hospitality, healthcare, agriculture and other skilled trade industries.
“Our focus is always Australian jobs first… but the impact of Covid has been so severe that even if we exhaust every other possibility, we will still be many thousands of workers short, at least in the short term,” says the Australian Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil.
She further said “We are moving away from a system which is almost entirely focused on how we keep people out to one that recognizes that we are in a global war for talent,”
Alongside changes in immigration and work-permit policies the govt. has also promised $36 million to hire staff; help accelerate visa processing. Despite reduced migration during the pandemic, over a million people have permanently moved to Australia.
You can be one of them.
