From today, applicants for student visas in Australia must show that they have AUD 29,710 to help fund their time in the country. The required figure, which was last raised to AUD 24,505 in October, is aligned with 75% of an Australian minimum wage salary. In announcing the change, the government said that it will mean international students are less likely to encounter financial difficulties, and be less vulnerable to exploitative employers. In addition, the funding requirements for dependent partners and children have been raised to AUD 10,394 and AUD 4,449 respectively.
