In a recent update, Australia has disclosed revised financial capacity requirement for Student and Student Guardian visas. Effective May 10, 2024, the financial threshold for student visa applicants increases to $29,710, up from $24,505. This adjustment aims to reduce the risk of international students facing financial challenges upon their arrival in Australia.

Genuine Student Requirement

Starting from March 23, 2024, the Government has introduced a new requirement called the Genuine Student (GS) requirement, replacing the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement for student visas.

Under this new requirement, all applicants for a student visa must demonstrate genuine intent to enter Australia as a student. They should be committed to studying in Australia as their primary purpose for holding the student visa.

The GS requirement aims to encompass students who not only pursue their studies in Australia but also contribute to the country’s skill development, potentially leading to applications for permanent residence in the future. (source: home affairs.gov.au)

In the online application form, DoHA will ask the following questions to address the GS criteria:

Explain why the applicant wishes to study this course in Australia with this particular education provider including their understanding of the requirements of the intended course and studying and living in Australia.

Explain how completing the course will be of benefit to the applicant.

Give details of any other relevant information the applicant would like to include.

Provide a detailed history of the applicant’s study record in Australia from the date of first arrival.
